Waves of Knowing

Salmon to become eradicated from 50% of Welsh rivers by 2034

Insight

This was a task to research and ideate about the current troubles that are facing Welsh waters. Salmon are at a big risk of become non-existent if nothing is done. How bad is the problem? What can be done? In this project, I explore the issues of the Salmon decline and who is responsible. I create solutions of what can be done both with new policies and a disruptive solution that would raise further awareness of the issue.

Problem

Salmon are on a decline. They will become non-extinct in Welsh waters. Something needs to be done and people need to be educated on the issue. If this issue doesn't get the attention it deserves, Welsh rivers will soon no longer be populated by salmon. One of the major concerns is man-made barriers. These prevent passages for the Salmon to swim back to their homes. This needs to change.

Solution

Creating new policies and grants that help fund stopping man-made barriers blocking the paths for salmon. These policies will help both the shareholders who own man-made barriers as well as speed up the process of improving salmon passages. Creating a disruptive response to attract media attention can help both educate and ramp up the pressure on the owners of man-made barriers.
